Chongqing Commercial Bank, China Mobile Chongqing Branch and mobile payments provider Just In Mobile have jointly introduced a mobile payment service using contactless e-purse “buttons” that contain the application and stick to the back of the users’ handsets, according to Cardtechnology.

Several hundred merchant locations including coffee shops, restaurants, beauty shops and cinemas will be able to accept the payment scheme. The service may also expand to the city’s transit system. Consumers will be able to reload the purse at Chongqing Commercial Bank branches, putting up to 1,000 yuan (US$131) on it. Some or all of the merchants will offer discounts or loyalty points.

The buttons don’t communicate with the handsets, so neither the operator nor bank can make use of the network or handset display to offer additional services, such as purse balance queries or promotions. (Cardtechnology)
