JCB Card Members Exceed One Million in China

JCB has announced that its cardmembers in China exceeded one million at the end of September 2007. JCB now has acquiring licensee partnerships with ten major banks and has formed issuing alliances with five local banks in China.

JCB entered in mainland China’s market in 1982 with a contract for merchant acquiring business with Bank of China. The card brand established a representative office in Beijing in 1990 followed by offices in Shanghai in 1994 and in Dalian in 1996.

In 2005 Bank of China and Bank of Shanghai started to issue JCB credit cards in China and, China Everbright Bank, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank and China Merchants Bank followed in 2007.
