Travelex Launches CUP Prepaid Travel Card
April 8, 2009  Category: Cards

Japanese travellers headed to China, Hong Kong and Macau are expected to welcome the latest prepaid travel money option from Travelex, with the launch of the China UnionPay (CUP) Cash Passport.

The prepaid travel money card offers a more convenient way for travellers to carry and access funds in China, Hong Kong and Macau, and is likely to be embraced by the 5 million Japanese visiting the Chinese mainland each year.

The Yen currency CUP Cash Passport allows Japanese travellers to pre-load their holiday funds onto the card. The card can also be re-loaded with additional funds and any unspent funds can be stored on the card for their next visit to the region. Linked to China’s only interbank network, the card can be used to make cash withdrawals at all ATMs across China and most ATMs in Hong Kong and Macau. The card can also be used to make purchases at over 1.3 million China Union Pay merchants.

Travelex has also launched a CUP Corporate Cash Passport which allows businesses to supply staff with pre-determined travel allowances, reducing the risk of overspending and eliminating overcomplicated claims processes upon their return to the office.

An important benefit of the CUP Cash Passport is the built-in security features of the card, as it is PIN and signature protected and not linked to an existing bank account. The prepaid card can be topped up in person or via internet banking. Travellers are able to keep track of their card balance and change their PIN through internet.

The card will be available from Travelex Japan retail outlets and some of the countries leading agents including Nippon Travel Agency, the third largest travel agency in Japan.
