China UnionPay has collaborated with commercial banks, mobile operators, phone manufactures and other industry players to establish a new Mobile Payment Industry Alliance.

The Alliance will establish specifications and business models for mobile payment industry and build a platform through which banks and wireless operators could jointly offer mobile payment services to firms in various industries such as the bus, metro, water, electricity and gas, cinema, petrol, hospital, commercial retail and many more.

The first batch of members to join the Alliance includes eighteen national and local commercial banks such as the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agriculture Bank of China, Construction Bank of China and Bank of Communications, two mobile communication operator China Unicom and China Mobile, mobile phone manufactures like Nokia and Lenovo and related institutions including several smart card and chip producers, system integrators and academies.
