INTERAC, Canada’s national debit network, and China Unionpay have launched a new service that will give Unionpay cardholders travelling in Canada the ability to withdraw cash from ATMs of participating acquirers in Canada.
China Unionpay and INTERAC networks will connect through a Gateway, eliminating network setup and significantly reducing development costs for Canadian acquirers. Access to the service is available to all Canadian acquirers interested in evolving their ATM service offerings.
The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) becomes the first major bank in Canada to begin accepting China Unionpay cards at its more than 3,800 ATMs through the INTERAC network.
