China Electronic Commerce Association (CECA), a government-backed organization is deploying a new authentication device, Fujitsu’s PalmSecure PC mouse equipped with a palm vein biometric sensor, using it as the login mechanism for its employees to gain access to their computers. This is the first deployment of palm vein biometric authentication devices in China.

Electronic transactions—including online banking, business transactions, and financial services—have quickly taken off in China, and there is increasing demand for more robust security, which is currently based primarily on ID cards and passwords. Biometric authentication technology is gaining wider acceptance as an ideal solution to this issue because biometrics are difficult to forge and the technology is easy to use, convenient, and safe.

The CECA is authorized by the government to evaluate companies, and runs a system for assigning ratings to companies that carry out electronic transactions. (Fujitsu)
